Tear/Rei III

The 16th Angel, Armisael, is spotted and Unit 00 is send to handle it. Before Rei can do anything, the Angel attacks and starts to fuse with Unit 00. Rei suddenly is stading in front of herself, the angel has entered her mind and and is taken her form to communicate with her. Rei refueses. Asuka is sent out to save Rei, but Asuka's sync ratio has become so low that she cannot even move Unit 02. Her ratio is under 10%. Commander Ikari orders Unit 01 to do the job, but all Shinji could do was watch Unit 00 blow up, along with the majority of the city. Rei activated the self-destruct system.

After the miraculous survival of Rei, Shinji tries to talk with her. Although Rei does not seem to remember Shinji very well. Rei is even more spaced out than usual. Shinji gets a mysterious phone call, telling him to head over to NERV right away. There, Ritsuko shows Shinji and Misato the core of the dummy plug, Rei! All around them are dozens of Reis. Ritsuko explains that Rei is cloned. Ritsuko destroys the spare Reis as Misato starts questionning again about the curse known as Evangelion.
